PSG Discusses University Organizations

At 1:00pm on Friday, Sept. 13 the Parkside Student Government called to order their first meeting of the new semester. Quorum was established with 4 on the floor, and after no old business was brought up, they got down to the new business for the meeting. On the docket for new business were Parkside’s organizations. One thing regarding the University Organizations was the Organization booklet, which contains all the information regarding all the different Organizations for students and staff. Proposals to amend several of the pages were made to bring the booklet up to date, since some of the information within was no longer relevant to the new semester. Resolutions were made to establish a timeline for the amendments to be made.

UW-Parkside Student Senate impeaches president

Last week Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, Parkside Student Senate voted unanimously to impeach President Jordan Theiler. This was after a protracted debate among political circles when it was discovered that now former President Theiler was attempting to create a “Chief of Staff” position in student government. Senator Dustin Beth was believed to be the sole candidate for this position. This, according to the Parkside Student Government constitution and by-laws, is illegal, as the position does not exist.

When approached for comment, Senator Beth gave the following statement, “I felt the impeachment was rushed. I was disappointed in the process, and the reasons that were outlined in the resolution. I felt they were personal and not factually based. I did not support it, and I believe the President did not get the opportunity to speak his mind,” citing that the president did not.

Press Release – PSG Election Results

After two full days of students lining up at the polls, new Parkside Student Government (PSG) officers have been elected for 2011-12. On Apr. 5 and 6, students were engulfed with posters, flyers, booths, and verbal campaigning by hopeful candidates who now have access to the results.

By a wide margin, Justin Irwin and Nelson Senda Jr. won President and VP respectively. They racked up 286 of the 652 total votes, good for 46 percent. Candidates Adam Spivey and Jeffrey House came up short as the runner-up with 194 votes, and current President Dana Calamia and Jisha Jose tallied 148.
