You came to my Graduation Party in 2008, and I still keep the beautiful vase you gave me on my stand next to my tintypes I’ve collected through out the years. You have and always will be what I aspire to be when it comes to History.
Fondly,
Brianna Johnson

Comment on “Fifty Shades of Grey” vs “Nymphomaniac” by Irina V /2015/03/03/fifty-shades-of-grey-vs-nymphomaniac/#comment-8452 Thu, 05 Mar 2015 18:07:31 +0000 /?p=2669#comment-8452 The truth is that we live in a world where we believe that sexuality is an embarrassing aspect of our lives. Something to be ashamed off. People are “coming out” mainly through whatever apparatus their society provides them with . Fifty Shades of Grey was promoted with a green card from the start.
Fifty Shades of Grey made a serious rave and create a “comfort” zone that started 6 months to a year prior to it coming out in cinemas this year.
Versus Nymphomaniac who made people yell and close their eyes widely when it came out. Some places around the world did not show it at all, or other cinemas discontinued the movie altogether after the first series of accusations. – This is because we live imprisoned. We allow others to dictate us what to feel, when and how.. .Too many women are afraid to embrace their bodies and what comes with that package.

Comment on “Tell me who’s gonna fill those shoes?”: Remembering Dr. Thomas A. Fournelle, 1946-2010 by Dr. Craig Ahern /2010/10/02/%e2%80%9ctell-me-who%e2%80%99s-gonna-fill-those-shoes%e2%80%9d-remembering-dr-thomas-a-fournelle-1946-2010/#comment-5154 Mon, 26 May 2014 05:07:15 +0000 /?p=380#comment-5154 Dr, Fournelle’s pragmatic methods are an integral part of how I teach mathematics to high school students. He challenged me to see the beauty in mathematical elegance. Instead of teaching the class the traditional way, Tom challenged us to think about curves with respect to convergence and divergence. An example I remember was the Infinite Paint can where the area converged and the surface area diverged. He asked the class to realize a paint can where it could not hold enough paint to cover the outside of the can. Also He used matrices to simplify vectors in calculus. He challenged us to look for algebraic equations to simplify our differentiation. This helped out tremendously in differential equations.

Without Tom I would not have thought about mathematics the way I do today. I thought of visiting him after I received my doctorate degree. I am saddened I won’t be able to do this. Dr. Fournelle was among the great mathematicians of UW Parkside. Tom used to say “Can you imagine what Issac Newton would be able to do if he had a calculator”. It seemed only like yesterday sitting in your class you were doing the Calculus Blues..

Dr. Fournelle will be missed. i am so glad I had the time I did where Tom was my teacher. He literally touched my life. I only hope I am half the teacher to my students Tom demonstrated to me.
