On Wednesday, Feb. 24th, Parkside held a career fair in the Student Center Ballroom. Approximately two-hundred students preregistered for the event and walk-ins were also welcome. Recruiters from over 50 companies came to see what Parkside students have to offer.
A room was set up outside for students to put their things down and do last minute preparations. It had several computers for students to research companies and printers to print more copies of their resumes before entering the Ballroom.
Parkside junior and computer science major, Christian Mayer, attended the fair interested in talking to a few companies, including TriCore Inc., Epic, Modine Manufacturing Company, and Jockey International Inc. However, he was hoping to speak to Amazon, who has been at the career fair in the past and was not there on Wednesday.
Other students, such as Sergio Abrago, a senior majoring in criminal justice and sociology, attended the fair in hopes of simply getting his resume out for more companies to look at. He was hoping to speak with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, but they were also not in attendance.
Brontrall Martin, a representative from City Year Milwaukee, was at the fair looking for Parkside Students to serve in the company. City Year looks for students to be role models and mentors for younger students at eleven Milwaukee public schools. They have been coming to Parkside career fairs for about three or four years. They currently have four Parkside alumni working for them and are interested in hiring more!
With over two-hundred students attending, it would be beneficial to have as many companies as possible present at future career fairs held at Parkside.
