UW-Parkside is hosting its very first Military Appreciation Week for student veterans starting 9 April. The Parkside Military Veteran’s Organization, Student Activities, the Student Organization Council, Sodexo, and Residence Life have all been working to put together this week for the student veterans. All week long the Veteran’s Book Project by Monica Haller will be taking place at the UW-Parkside Foundation Gallery.
The project is a library of books, each written by a veteran, officer or “enlistee,” or someone closely connected with the current wars. Military Uniforms will be displayed in the Student Center Art Gallery, military appreciation cards will be located in main place, and the military appreciation wall will also be up all week. On Monday there will be an opening flag ceremony at noon in main place with free food, and military movies shown at 5pm, 7pm, and 9 pm.
All student military will be able to receive a free cup of coffee. Tuesday there will be a Military resource fair from 10am to 2pm on the Student Center Bridge, and all student military will be able to receive a free muffin. On Wednesday, Soup and Substance will be presented by David Bruce with free soup in the Oak Room at noon.
Dinner and Dialogue with veteran George Michel will take place in the ballroom from 5pm to 6:30pm. Free dinner will be provided, but you need to sign up at Student Activities. All student military will be able to receive a free cookie. On Thursday, free pizza will be given to student military, and a free 20oz soda on Friday. Any veterans who would like to take advantage of free offerings from Sodexo should contact firstname.lastname@example.org to receive their appreciation card. Everyone is asked to participate throughout the week and show appreciation for those who serve our great country.
