Blast from the Past: Fall Fest Celebrates the 60’s

UW-Parkside is flashing back to its origins for the upcoming Fall Fest.  From Monday, October 3rd through Saturday, October 8th the campus will be transformed to the 60’s for the weeklong event.  Fall Fest is a campus community wide supported program for the students by the students.  Organizations involved in sponsoring this year’s experience are Student Activities, WIPZ, Parkside Activities Board, Parkside Student Government, LGBTQ Resource Center, Parkside Club Football, the Ranger Wellness Center, the Student Center, Parkside Intramurals, and Sodexo.

The kick off of Fall Fest will happen at 11 A.M on the 3rd at Main Place; there will be plenty of activities and food involved. These will include 1960’s green screen photos, tie-dyeing, caricatures, and button making.  To battle the lunchtime hunger, sno cones, popcorn, a chocolate fountain, and cheese fondue will be available.  Not to mention, students will have a chance to receive free t-shirts for the tie-dyeing.  During the kick off, announcements and information will be given to students detailing the rest of the week’s various events.
Some marquee events of the 2011 Fall Fest are the Superbowl party, the Luau, and Rangerstock. The Superbowl party is on Wednesday, October 5th at 7 P.M. in the Den.  Custom made highlight NFL films of the 1967 and 1968 Superbowls will be shown and the Parkside Club Football will be hosting trivia with prizes.

The Luau and Pig Roast is the entertainment planned for Friday, October 7th.  It is starting at 5 P.M. and located on the terrace.  Hawaiian food including pork, fish, pineapples, coconuts, and bananas will be on the menu for Friday night.  Students will be able to get ultimate wave photos taken, and will be entertained by the dance company Halo E Malo.  The company,  known for their hula and fire dance routines, guarntees that  space will fill up fast! Beach balls sponsored by the LGBTQ Resource Center will be the free giveaways at the Luau. The Parkside Student Government is the host of the event.

Rangerstock is the grand finale of Fall Fest.  From 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Saturday, October 8th, the terrace will be the home of the largest event of this year’s Fall Fest.  Amongst other things, there will be giant twister, a photo booth, and a dodge ball tournament.  Student groups and local bands will be performing live music.  Highlighting these performers will be The Bugs. As the day nears its end, a comedian, not to be named yet, will take the stage at 8 PM in the Student Center Cinema.  Items such as hotdogs and cotton candy will be served throughout Rangerstock.

The student and campus organizations sponsoring Fall Fest have logged long hours preparing this year’s event.  Come on out, meet some new people, eat some good food, and enjoy Parkside as it goes back to the decade of its conception.
