On January 14, 2011, Parkside’s lovable bear with a menacing smile traveled to Orlando, Florida for the UCA National Mascot Championship, where he ranked third place out of all division 2 and division 3 schools.
In order to compete in the championship, the top schools had to defeat 18 other mascots in a regional competition before moving on to nationals. First place went to the University of Delaware, and second went to South Alabama. Ranger Bear was nervous, but he did not falter. He enthusiastically wooed the judges with a 90 second “Ranger” themed skit, incorporating everything from the Lone Ranger to Power Rangers, allowing him to take home the third highest honor.
Back at home, Ranger Bear serves as an emblem of the school’s pride and spirit. At Parkside, he can be seen dancing around the halls and at various sporting events.
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is proud of Ranger Bear and his hard work. I was lucky enough to sit down for a brief interview with him. Ladies and gentlemen, I would now like you to take the time to get to know your nationally accredited furry mascot.
